Cesme | TURKEY
The vineyards and the winery are located in Cesme, a coastal town on the Aegean Sea, close to the city of Izmir in Turkey. The area has been one of the most prominent viticultural lands of the ancient Greek civilizations. Not far from the birthplace of Dionysus, Greek God of grape harvest and wine making.
The vines, planted 17-20 years ago, on a very small property of 4.5 acres, consist of; Grenache, Tempranillo, and Merlot varietals. The vineyard is organic certified.
The winery is a very small boutique size production with a capacity of 4,500ltrs only. Winemaking style is defined as “Cesme Style” which is low impact oenology with minimum intervention to what is being provided by the terroir. Presently, two labels are produced: Sirin Rose of 100% Grenache and Fidan Red of 100% Tempranillo.
The profits from the wine sales are used to finance a “non-profit” social project to support the education of women in viticulture and oenology.
